ABOUT US

Afraid to fly?  You're not alone!  Almost 25 million Americans would prefer not to fly on commercial aircraft.  Some people have never flown and don't know what to expect while others fly regularly but are extremely uneasy about the whole process.

MISSION STATEMENT

Through empathy, education, and experience, the Fear of Flying Clinic offers fearful flyers the tools to cope with their phobia and their fear and to fly comfortably. The staff of the Fear of Flying Clinic is committed to this goal and to the individuals who seek the key to comfortable flight.

FLYING IS THE WAY TO GO!

Your fear of flying is real and significant. Flying goes against basic, deeply-rooted human instincts, including fear of falling, which is the earliest and most fundamental of all fears. Even people who are comfortable with the flight itself can be nervous about the airports, ticketing, reservations - the whole confusing operation that supports air travel. Millions of Americans have such strong feelings about flight that they won't fly at all. Millions more are uncomfortable whenever they do fly.

Your fear of flying puts you at a disadvantage in today's world. Commercial flight is usually the fastest way from one place to another as well as the most convenient. For people who know its ins and outs, it is also the most comfortable way to travel, and statistically speaking it is by far the safest.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM?

The Fear of Flying Clinic consists of two full weekends of lectures and demonstrations, supplemented with reading materials and relaxation audio. In-depth materials will be presented on the commercial aviation system by seasoned pilots, air traffic controllers, airline maintenance professionals, flight attendants, and others. Our graduates report that this education provides an outstanding foundation for helping overcome their fear. We consult with a clinical psychologist to provide further tools to help manage the fear, and past clinic graduates will be available to share their experiences and tell how they have learned to fly comfortably. There will be plenty of time to get answers to any questions you may have.

Our program includes a graduation flight on a scheduled commercial jet. Two clinics are offered each year. Clinics are limited to twenty participants, so we advise reserving your place early.

The opportunity to refresh your skills is also offered. Please see the Refresher page for more details.

PEOPLE WHO CARE ENOUGH TO VOLUNTEER

The Fear of Flying Clinic is a nonprofit, community service organization. Our volunteer staff consists of commercial aviation pilots, Federal Aviation Administration personnel, employees of major airlines, and clinic graduates. Many have been with the organization for over twenty years and understand your needs and concerns. A fee is charged to cover the clinic's expenses and the graduation flight.

WE CONSULT WITH A CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Our program exists to help you understand your fear and help you deal with it. Thoughtful consideration of cause and effect of thinking processes, physiological responses to fear, and behaviors are an important part of the program.  We consult with a clinical psychologist and share his techniques to help quell anxiety and fear. This is all supported by honest discussion throughout the clinic. When you complete the course, like hundreds who have taken our course, you'll be on your way to greater relaxation and enjoyment of flying.
